They say – “An Apple a day keeps the doctor away. But if the doctor is pretty keep the apple away”. We had been staying away from “the apple” for quite sometime, largely due to limited bandwidth. Today, we are happy to announce that our ordering platform has a new addition to the family. Earlier today, our iPhone application (ZopiOS) was released from the grips of the reviewers at Apple and is ready for public consumption. ZopiOS will join its elder brother ZopAndy who would turn 6 months in the next 3 days. The two brothers would be living in two different rooms of iTune stores and Google Play and would enjoy the luxury of fortune 500 companies. They would transact with the ZopNow inventory and customer base via API hosted at another fortune 500 company cloud whose name resembles a river.

The two brothers share the same gene pool of ZopNow and have a lot of similarity. Both of them would help ZopNow “consumers on the go” and would offer a personalized ZopNow experience to the consumers. Both strive to make the shopping experience fast and have delighted customers by letting them browse/search for over 8,500 SKU. The top consumers have been able to add more than 30 products in 9 minutes. Younger brother ZopiOS has retained the ability to remember “shopping list” and quickly searches for products like his elder brother ZopAndy.

It would be fair to say that elder brother ZopAndy has aptly played the role of mentor for younger brother ZopiOS. With its 6 months of real life experience, ZopAndy has trained younger brother ZopiOS with new tricks of the trade. ZopiOS has ability to show description of a product, similar products and products from same brands for a given product. In addition, ZopiOS has the ability to recommend products and allow a user to look at their past order. ZopiOS would also allow the consumers to add new delivery address. ZopiOS has been trained by “Sanjay of Mahabharata” and would use this skill to let the consumers know the exact location of their delivery. The coolest feature that ZopiOS has is the ability to tell you the details of your shopping cart at any point of time in a fraction of second – all you have to ask is to ZopiOS to tilt on its torso.

Luke, one of the first Beta tester for ZopiOS, who turns 5 next month, was able to add his quota of candies, chips and soft drinks while his father was preparing maggi – little did his dad think that his 5 year toddler would be able to order in less than 2 min and use the convenient 3 hour ZopNow delivery slot coupled with cash on delivery option. Join Luke and several more ZopiOS customers to enjoy the “Power of Now” and get your groceries delivered in 3 hours.

We are fed up. Fed up of traffic.

Getting to your home in 3 hrs is just not easy and we have decided to do the unthinkable. We are creating a pipeline which directly connects our warehouse to your homes. This will significantly reduce the time taken for delivery and it will also cause lesser stress on the existing infrastructure. We did evaluate using air borne drones for the purpose but some of the Cloud companies objected that this is going to block the access to Cloud infrastructure. The planned pipeline will be of 1 meter diameter and will be able to handle anything from a pencil to a 10kg Atta pack. Air will be pumped through the pipeline to push the items in the desired direction. Special hardware is being designed for effective routing of food items. We are also in the process of designing 3 types of air which help in keeping various categories of daily needs fresh.

We seek your co-operation in this regard and request you to mails us your details to bbmp@zopnow.com so that we can decide on areas to prioritize.

Here is an illustration of how things might work

An argument between Organic and Non-Organic Food started while taking a walk in the aisle of our Storehouse. The question started popping on our mind when we saw certain stuffs, holding the place in the warehouse labelled as “Organic Products”. Now the curiosity yelled regarding the difference between Organic and Non-Organic Food. I mean how does it exactly differs from each others?
Here we go with the definition that states—-
Organic stuffs are those, that basically promotes and enhance biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biology activity. As per the (USDA) National Organics Standard Board, it means soil management, crop rotation and fertilization techniques free from chemically manufactured products, that ensures the extreme edibility of Food we intake. Moreover Organic Stuffs are believed to be more safe comparatively. Organic Products are also recognized by the tag it has been displayed on all the packages, but the seal can be made, only when the products contain more than 95% organic ingredients. Rest containing at least 70% organic ingredients will not display the USDA seal but may list specific organic ingredients on the front of the package.
Non Organic stuffs carries more chemical fertilizers to promote plant growth compared to Organic,
however there is no certain evidence or proof that ensures Non Organic Stuffs are non-edible. But to speak honestly as a matter of fact, “Pro Nature Stuffs” soars higher, as most of the people seems to prefer 100% Pure Organic Stuffs at their homes and our webstore is very much affluent in selling Organic Products.
Finally, the argument concludes when the Phone rings and my ear clings by hearing about the order in bulk of “Pro Nature Stuffs” that needs to get delivered in the time slot of 12 pm to 3 pm.

What makes sense?

It is so damn difficult to untangle ourselves from the multi choice we tend to ponder many a times. Grabbing things within no time that hits our needs and selecting stuffs from a vast store within some amount of time makes little difference. But in case if we get to merge our ideas to implement them in a single task might go well what do you think?
I think this makes sense—-
Comparing product quality with the brands we are accustomed to, or thinking to pick our daily required stuffs from a market or an online hypermarket does really makes much difference?
Getting our daily grocery stuffs delivered at our door step within a slot of time is worth doing? was the question, i had to answer when i was preparing the list to order my stuffs online. Since I am little fond of make up kits or the products that are particularly meant to take care of my beauty, I always go through the review or the information typically focusses about the product before adding them in my cart list. In general, i must admit that i am slightly fussy about the products i normally apply on my skin.
Here the battle starts—–
Some says Herbal products rocks, some says Biotique products rules and few other believes Patanjali Wins! Now the question that provokes our mind is why to have faith in any sorts of argument or other’s words ? But what else to be done? Use all the products and see? Oh come on, who has time to do so? or would go for experimenting the same on our skin?
Now here the hierarchy hits each other—-
“Lotus” products are perfectly women concerned products which are typically nature based whereas “Biotique” products claims to be originated from Ayurveda. But the end lines parallely strikes each other by agreeing the fact, that it provides a salubrious care from head to toe in and out. On the contrary, most people prefer picking “Patanjali” Stuffs, since it is a concoction of Nature+Herbs But have you ever noticed? the mission of the products are actually similar, they all are available for multipurpose requirements and with a better outcome. Only difference has been noticed is in the “price tags” and also how much one is used to, to the products they offer to their skins or the choices matters.
Finally the best thing happens when you get to pick the best products among the flaunted brands on the broad screen you view. And here my answer takes the pleasure to confine the above question, stating the fact that in a single notice, we get to pick up our favourite branded stuffs at just a tip of finger in a comparatively lesser price which is very much worth doing.

Here are some interesting statistics from our consumer purchase patterns.

Bangalore goes healthy - Olive oil out numbered mustard oil by 20%

Who says one cannot compare “Oranges vs Apple” - Orange wins. We sold 50% more orange juice than apple. Rumor has it that “carrot” is helping orange. The “Real Orange Carrot Juice” is gaining momentum

Soda - Customers from Whitefield are beating the Koramangalans when it comes to soda. Average consumption of soda is 25% higher in whitefield. We have no idea why does majority of soda comes in the 6-9PM order slot.

Afganistan beats Punjab - The scoreline stands at 3 to 2. For every 3Kg of “Kabuli Chana” we sold 2Kg of “Rajma”

Our faith in God goes up as the year passed by - We sold as much “agarbatti” (incense stick) in the last quarter as we sold in the first three.

“Ready to cook meal” and Storage container - We are still trying to figure out why do people who order “ready to cook meal” order twice as much storage container, as other customers who do not order “Ready to cook”.

Cream is out, Gel is in - We sold seven times more shaving gel and foam than shaving cream. Still confused that why do two of our customers order shaving gel and aftershave, but never order a razor.

Every rule has an exception - We had two. We thought Disposable plates do not need dishwash liquid. However there were 2 orders that had only disposable plates and liquid dishwash.

The tide for surf is high - Surf continues to be the most popular detergent with Tide and Ariel at a distant second, third position. Tide and Ariel though have a tough match

Its “Even Steven” between Nandini and Amul - Nandini beats Amul when it comes to milk. Amul wins the “maska” race. When it comes to “paneer” – they go neck to neck.

For every bread winner there are seven “cereal” killers - Cereal lead by Kellogs seems to be gaining popularity over bread as breakfast

The trouble with eating Italian food is that five or six days later you’re hungry again - We think George Miller was right. Pasta loving customer order almost every 7th day.

The rise of the “Organic Pulses” - Every fourth packet of pulse is organic.

Lesson learnt: Stick to what you do the best - Axe, Park Avenue and Yardley are way ahead when it comes to deodorant than Playboy. May be Playboy should stick to the magazine only

Bull vs Bear - Sorry – no bull run here. We love our honey. Sold five times more honey than “red bull”

Lets paint the city red - The most popular toothpaste is “red gel” be it colgate or close-up. Red Label Tea wins the race in tea.

We are sure that dogs outnumber cat in Bangalore - Delivered three times more dog food than cat food.

Good sleep is as important as clean toilet - Sold almost as much toilet cleaner as insect repellent

The answer is newspaper. This age old joke works for majority of first timer. One gets it only after realizing that “read” is spelt as “red”. It is true that context matters. When we go out for dinner with a set of friends and someone asks to pass a slice of pizza, depending on whether the person is a vegetarian or non-vegetarian, we pass the pizza accordingly. The best examples are mother – my mom used to give me milk mixed with Horlicks and my elder sister Bournvita; catering to our taste. Even the driver at my friends place knows this context. On weekend when my friend asks him to take out the car, he takes out the big “Toyota Innova” as weekend are typically meant for family outing. The same question of “taking out the car” leads to the “Hyundai i10” being taken out on a weekday, when he goes to the office.

At ZopNow, as we started building our consumer base and looked at the customer purchase pattern, we saw similar patterns. The same search for “milk” was leading a set of customers to buy “Nandini Milk” and a second set of customers “Amul Milk”, some gravitating to “Nestle” and a small interesting set purchasing “Dairy Milk” on this query. The fact is that different people mean different thing depending on their personal preference. A similar pattern was seen when our customer browse the site. A set of customers browsing the “Edible Oil” section purchase the “Sundrop” brand and another set end up with “Leonardo” in their basket. Based on this purchase pattern we decided to introduce “Zopnolized” feature and that takes into account your purchase pattern and a few other global data to make your zopping experience more personalized, more closer to your needs. It has led to cutting down the purchase time by almost 35% for our repeat customers.

Customers depending on their personal preference would see the following pages while searching for oil or browsing the “beverage page”

The answer is that they jog their memory. Jokes apart – don’t we hate it when we forget something. Isn’t it frustrating that you really yearned for that cup of coffee at 11PM only to realize that you are out of milk. While, we cannot solve all the problems, but we can help a bit. One of the cool features we have recently added is the “Zogger” feature that shows our customers any commonly missed products that they purchase. For instance, for someone like me, who is an ardent fan of “Thums Up”’ and relishes his early morning steamy coffee with milk would see a page like this on the checkout process; in case the cart does not have milk or thums up.

With a typical basket having 30 products, it is normal to miss out on a couple of things. Hopefully our “Zogger” will help you “jog the memory” and help add those missed products.

Happy Zogging!

What fun!! We have literally been rolling on our tummies out here. You guys are wayyyy more laziness-inspiring and fun-loving than we thought while thinking of putting up this contest for you. Kudos!!

For those who do not know, we did a laziness contest, The Lazy Knight, on Facebook. We challenged all the lazy people to give a proof of their laziness.

The earth may vanish
The sky may fall
The one who dwells the couch

They say the way to mans’ heart is via stomach. We believe that the way to anyones’ heart is via stomach. We did our Secret Santa party with a lot of food accompanied by the dinner game – ‘One Line, One Language’. As a part of this game, one had to speak a sentence in one langue – Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, English, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Bhojpuri, Maghai, Malyalam. One had to start and finish the sentence in the same language. Any word from other language was a violation. The fine per violation was Rs.10. A guest had the option to opt for a “buffet” where in at the very beginning, the guest can opt for the buffet for a price of Rs. 500. As a part of the buffet, the guest had full freedom to speak any language (except foul words from any language) and do a cocktail of all language.

While there were many violation but some esteemed guests, the violations were borne by their respective spouse. Meenakshi topped this category and Ujjwal had to pay the price. The expression on their face says it all.

While all the chaos and commotion was happening on the language front – some people were debating if “judge” is an allowed hindi word or one had to use “nyaya-dheesh” – Birlaji managed to post his status on “mukh-pustak”

The “Begani shadi mein abdullah deewana” award went to Nikhil who in an honest attempt to cut down Mukris loss (who in turn was on a run to lose his life saving in this game) ended up using a mix of English/Hindi and payed the penalty. The comical award went to Tanushree – who managed to translate office into “daftar”, took a sigh of relief of having translated it well and pronounced the next word in English.

The golden moment of the day was when we were able to trap Vikash who had the perfect ratio of number of words spoken and fine paid. But alas, as they say – “Even monkeys fall of trees”.

Praveen managed to maintain his silence and was given good company in form of Shyam. Sanket used 95% English and 4.5% Hindi – the rest 0.5% is still getting deciphered. On the business end of the event, when we finally moved to the Santa gifts, everyone wanted Bhargavis to be their Santa. She got a nice T-shirt as the gift. However, the most innovative Santa gift was for Vikash. He got an invoice of a book that will be delivered next week. Apparently, Vikashs Santa overslept and forgot to order on time. Last when we checked the orderID, turns out its a cash on delivery gift.

Luke, Shubhos 4.5 year old son, decided to give a fitting end to the party. He decided to narrate the “Jurrasic Park” story. His parents had claimed that he can speak all the characters of Jurrasic Park but not “signal”. Luke narrated the entire Jurrasic Park story that would make Steven Spielberg proud. He was able to pronounce all characters ranging from Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus, Dilophosaurus. And just to make sure, he got the equation right with his parents, decided to pronounce “signal” at least 15 times after ending the story.

Merry Christmas and a very happy new year to all.
